Your intention is your ride
There is an Arabic proverb, an-niyyah matiyyah: your intention is your ride. It carries you, and the reward it brings sometimes shows up in this world too. Allah helps His servant in proportion to their intention: when the intention is complete, His help completes it.
What we'll do together
The power of intention setting
The anatomy of a niyyah, how an intention forms from the first prompting to action, and how intention multiplies, reduces or transforms a deed.
Working session: set your intentions for the year
Guided reflection prompts to find your one high-himma intention, then intentions for each area of your life.
The art of dua
How to formulate a dua for your intention, and a seven-step template for your next dua session.
Working session: align your duas with your intentions
Write the duas that go with each of your intentions.
Three tests of a sincere intention
The benefit test
Would I still do this if I gained nothing from it?
The what-if-it-fails test
Would I still be at peace if the result never came?
The criticism test
Would I continue if people criticised me for it?
Planning with barakah

Abundance · Purpose and impact-driven · Reliance upon Allah
Values
Strength · Excellence · Teamwork and cooperation
Rituals
Praiseworthy planning · Consulting Allah and others · Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ
The seven steps
Set one high-himma intention
God-centred, purpose-driven, and big enough that you'll make dua for it constantly.
Set 3–5 intentions per area of life
Spiritual, health and wellness, family, financial, learning and development: what will you start, stop and continue?
Build a working plan
Break intentions into projects, space them over 6–8 weeks, ask for support and review often.
Write your duas
One for each intention. Not sure? Pray istikhara.
Track your intentions
Monthly, weekly and daily.
Follow the breadcrumbs
You don't need to see the whole path. Take the next step.
Detach from results
Be a gardener, not a carpenter: plant, tend and trust Allah with the harvest.
You'll leave with
- Your high-himma intention for the year
- Intentions mapped across the five areas of your life
- A dua list linked to your intentions, and a template to use it
- The outline of a working plan
“And those who strive for Us, We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.”
Qur'an 29:69

Questions
Do I need to prepare anything?
Bring a notebook and remove physical and digital distractions. Come as your whole self: the working sessions are where the change happens.
I'm not sure what my intention is. Can I still join?
Yes. You don't need it finalised. The prompts are designed to help you draft and discover it.
Why Muharram?
It is the sacred opening of the Hijri year, a natural moment to pause and plan. The method works whenever you are ready to reset.
